French drains have been in use in Montreal since the 1950s. Back then, they were made of terracotta and had holes in them to allow water to flow out. If you believe that your French drain dates from this period, it may be clogged and the hose rotten.
Today, French drains are made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and are covered with a textile membrane that traps dirt. To prevent problems due to strong rainfall and snow melt, make sure your French drain meets current building-code requirements. Cam Construction will be happy to install it for you.
Don’t wait for a backflow of water before taking action.
